With the majority of the club’s regular competitors out of action due to illness or injury the young guns had to step up to the plate on Saturday at the Irish International Karate Championships in Ardee.
A lot of great experience was gained for this very young squad with outstanding debuts for some as young Tammy Porter provided a masterclass in Kicks in the final to win Gold in Kumite and Bronze in Kata and Deborah Hannigan – who has been putting in very hard training on the lead up to the event – walked away with a Gold in Kata and Silver in Kumite.
Eoin Crawford, at only 6, and a class mate of Tammy’s at school continued his success since starting to compete with another Gold in Kata.
With more competitors coming through in the junior classes the future is looking great for The Three Rivers Karate club.
Medal winners on the day were Deborah Hannigan Gold in Kata, silver in Kumite, Emma Dolan Silver in Kumite, Ace Rodrigues Silver in Kata Bronze in Kumite, Eoin Crawford Gold in Kata and Tammy Porter Gold in Kumite and Bronze in Kata.
Next up for the club is the JKS Ireland Open in Dublin this Sunday.
