Four weeks on from the tragic death of Manus Kelly, the heartache remains among his rallying team.
The MK Rallying support team has expressed their devastation after losing their champion in the Donegal International Rally 2019.
Glenswilly native Manus Kelly (41) and his co-driver Donall Barrett were vying for their fourth victory in the rally when tragedy struck on the Fanad Head stage on Sunday 23rd June.
Manus’ support team’s world was shattered on that fateful day.
The MK Rallying crew issued this touching tribute to their ‘main man’ Manus Kelly on Friday last:
“This page was set up in 2016 to follow Manus progress, and boy did he give us as a small team and to you his supporters some of the best days of our lives.
“Everything in service was as is that Sunday morning, Donall and Manus posed for a picture with their beloved Donegal flag before heading off for the first loop of Sunday stages.
“Nobody ever dreamt of what the next hour would bring.
“We as a team are absolutely devastated and it will take time for this to sink in.
“We wish to thank everyone for their kind and sincere messages of support this past few weeks, it certainly means a lot to us.
“Manus Kelly, you were our champ and you will be in our hearts forever.
“May you Rest in Peace.”
Earlier today, the monthly meeting of the Inishowen Municipal District was adjourned in memory of the late Manus Kelly, who was elected as a Fianna Fail councillor for the Letterkenny area in May.
