Illistrin maintained their fine form in the Terry Leyden Under-14 League on Wednesday night while Finn Valley and Swilly were also in the winner’s enclosure this week.
Finn Valley 3 Mulroy Academy 0
Played in the rescheduled venue at Crossroads, Killygordon on a humid evening, the home team kicked off the contest but both teams found each other’s defences in stubborn form in the early stages of the game.
As the half wore on Mulroy absorbed a lot of the Valley pressure and were dangerous on the counter attack but were undone  when Cody Walsh beat the Mulroy offside and drilled the ball past the despairing dive of the Mulroy ‘keeper after an inch perfect pass by Brenda Carr-Rebecca McColgan combination.
From the restart of play, Mulroy began to play with more urgency and had the Valley girls under pressure and created several attempts at goal and were unlucky not to level the score by half-time.
The break was well welcomed by both teams as the humid conditions began to take their toll on both teams.
The second half continued with Mulroy on the offensive and Valley absorbing a lot of pressure.
Valley began to  take hold of the game and with the young Ciara Lawne and Sarah Connaghan coming close to extending the Valley lead . Valley did go further ahead from a resulting free kick  just inside the Mulroy half after an error by the Mulroy defence allowed Cody Walsh to capitalise and extend the Valley lead.
Valley could have increased their lead only for the Mulroy keeper in great form and keeping the Valley attempts at bay.
Although under the cosh at times Mulroy still posed a counter attacking threat going forward.
But as the energy sapping evening took its toll recent signings Abbie and Yasmine Gallen combined with Cody Walsh, who set up Rebecca McColgan to add her name to the scoresheet  just before the final whistle.
Both teams contributed to a very entertaining game, which was well marshalled by referee Liam McLaughlin
Raphoe Town 1 Swilly Rovers 2
Two goals from Orla Connolly proved the difference on Wednesday night as Swilly Rovers took all three points from this entertaining game at Deele College.
When the teams met earlier in the season there was little between them with Swilly taking a 1-0 win on that occasion and once again the teams were separated by a kick of the ball come the end of this well-contested game.
Raphoe had chances early on with Marie Sweeney and Shania McMonagle both testing the Swilly goal, but it was Swilly who broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Connolly raced clear and smashed home from close range.
Swilly, who had Kelsey McAteer and Katie Duffy both in excellent form on the night, doubled their advantage five minutes after the break, Connolly making the best of a mix-up in the Raphoe defence to double their advantage.
But the home team were certainly not out of this by any means. With great performances from Cora McBride and Rocha McCullagh, they carved out a number of chances, but Chloe Boyce had an excellent game in goal for the visitors.
At the other end Abbie McKnight made a string of fine saves for Raphoe as well as Swilly pressed to extend their lead, but they had to hang on for the win for the last fifteen minutes when Raphoe finally got the goal their pressure merited when Shania McMonagle found the net.
Both teams had chances in an enthralling last ten minutes, but in the end the visitors held on and went home happy with all three points.
