Letterkenny Gaels continued their excellent home form with a solid win over Urris and also secured their Division 3 status for another year.
Letterkenny Gaels 0-12 Urris 1-7
Conor McBrearty and Cormac Cannon opened the Gaels account before the Clonmany men responded with scores from Dean Kelly and Michael Grant. Brian Doherty and John McCarron put Urris two up before Cannon (2) and McBrearty hit back for the Glebe men. Gaels keeper Shane Graham was then called up to convert a long range point.
McCarron and McBrearty exchanged points to leave it 0-7 to 0-5 in favour of the hosts at half time.
Cormac Cannon kicked two more points in the 32nd and 35th minute before Dean Kelly responded for Urris.
However the Gaels team were now showing serious intent and McBrearty hit two more points to put the home team in the comfort zone. Urris had other ideas and sub Mark McLaughlin had an immediate impact as he goaled to reduce the deficit to two points.
McBrearty hit back in the 58th minute as Gaels worked hard at keeping possession. Michael Grant turned over Gaels possession in injury time and he finished a fine move as he skinned the crossbar for a point for the final score. Urris will now depend on Gaels to beat Naomh Ultan next Sunday if they are to avoid relegation.
