THE Donegal Boxing Board holds its annual awards night on Saturday, September 19th at the Abbey Hotel, Donegal town.
All eyes will be on the destination of the Harry ‘Kid’ Duffy Memorial Cup, which is awarded to the senior boxer of the year.
In each of the last two years, Jason Quigley has been the recipient for his exploits in the amateur game.
Since turning professional in 2014, Quigley – now 8-0 in the pro ranks over the last 13 months – is no longer eligible for the prize.
Two new awards have been added to the awards list this year: The Jim White Memorial Plaque will be given to the best junior boxer, with the Johnny McDaid Memorial Cup going to the best overall female boxer.
Also to be presented on the night will be the Jimmy Murphy Cup to the best club, the Dr Denis McLaughlin Cup to the best youth boxer and the John McLaughlin Memorial Cup to the best intermediate boxer.
Sixteen boxers from Donegal’s clubs who have won national titles over the last season will be honoured on the night while the county’s 19 new coaches will receive their certificates.
Dinner will be served at 8pm and tickets are available from the clubs or from County Board officers.
