CONGRATULATIONS to Darren Curran of Dungloe, who has won our poll to become the first ever Donegal Sport Hub Player of the Week.
Curran (pictured above by Mary Bonner) played a vital part as his side produced a remarkable comeback in the RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta SFC Group 2 clash against Ardara.
Tony Boyle’s side were eight points down, only for Curran’s goal to turn the tide as the hosts went on to win 2-7 to 0-12 at Rosses Park last Sunday.
From the 509 votes cast, Curran had 43 percent, some 218 votes. He was followed by Naomh Conaill’s Leon Thompson on 34 percent, 171 votes, after the Glenties team enjoyed a splendid 2-12 to 0-8 win over St Eunan’s in Letterkenny. Thompson scored 1-5 from play in a fine personal showing.
Third place went to Odhrán MacNiallais on 24 per cent, 120 votes, for his performance in Gaoth Dobhair’s 1-15 to 2-8 win at Sean MacCumhaill’s on Saturday evening. The Donegal midfielder kicked five points from play in an impressive outing in Ballybofey.
Stayed tuned this coming week, on Tuesday, for the team of the week from the third round of fixtures and on Wednesday we’ll have another shortlist so you can vote for Player of the Week again.
