THEY SAY THAT a picture can tell a thousand words.
Yesterday, over 15,000 took to the streets of the capital for the Dublin City Marathon.
It’s known as the “friendly marathon” and there was the usual positive atmosphere over the 26 miles and 385 yards.
One seven-year-old from Ballybofey waited patiently.
Caoimhe McNulty was there for her father Shane as he finished and gave him a congratulatory kiss. Kieran Carlin’s image perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the event.
Shane was wearing the Finn Valley Athletic Club colours, having also been a mainstay for Sean MacCumhaill’s GAA Club down the years, as well as lining out for Cappry Rovers FC in the Donegal League.
He finished yesterday in an excellent time of two hours 54 minutes and 18 seconds – not bad going for his first marathon!
Shane’s son Shea and the rest of the family were also there to see him home (see below).
