TYLER TOLAND scored her first goal for the Republic of Ireland seniors in tonight’s 2-0 win over Montenegro at Tallaght.
Toland netted Ireland’s first after just seven minutes on a night when Katie McCabe’s second, from the penalty spot, sealed a win over dogged opponents.
Toland, winning her 13th senior cap, drilled home from outside the box to put Tom O’Connor’s Girls in Green ahead and the 18-year-old midfielder was named the official player of the match.
The St Johnston woman has recently signed a two-year deal with Manchester City, who begin their League campaign this weekend with a home game against Manchester United.
Montenegro shipped ten goals at the weekend in a 10-0 hammering against Germany and the home fans felt the floodgates might have opened when Toland’s shot went in off the post.
Toland had a superb game in the engine room, controlling Ireland’s play, and she might have doubled the lead, but shot over when well placed.
22 minutes from the end, McCabe fired home a penalty after a handball by Jadranka Pavicevic.
