REPUBLIC of Ireland legend Packie Bonner looked back at his memorable career in an hour-long special this afternoon.
Bonner was interviewed by Joe Molloy on Off The Ball as he charted his rise from growing up in west Donegal to his glittering career with Celtic and the Republic of Ireland.
Bonner played for Ireland at the European Championships in 1988 and at the World Cups in 1990 and 1994.
He is best remembered for his famous save to deny Daniel Timofte at Italia ’90 as Ireland overcame Romania to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.
From Burtonport, Bonner spoke of growing up in rural Donegal and going on to play 642 times for Celtic and winning 80 caps for his country. Bonner was the last signing made by iconic Celtic manager Jock Stein in 1978.
A talented Gaelic footballer, Bonner also recalled his GAA career, which included a handful of appearances for the Donegal senior team.
