Michael Murphy made a welcome return to Donegal’s colours last night at Croke Park – and proceeded to show just why he’s a model to young players.
Murphy, who had a corrective procedure in the winter to cure a Gilmore’s Groin complaint, appeared for the last 15 minutes of the 0-20 to 0-15 defeat to Dublin, replacing Odhrán Mac Niallais.
The Glenswilly man was ring-rusty after a few months out of action, kicking three wides, but the sight of the captain back in action will certainly increase the optimism levels among Donegal’s supporters.
After the game, with the old theatre practically empty, Murphy was spotted out doing runs on Croke Park again.
He was captured by Irish Times journalist Eamon Donoghue…
When everyone else has left, Michael Murphy is doing extra runs in an empty Croke Park. A bit rusty on his comeback tonight, but that’s the difference! pic.twitter.com/yMIq4wDD5d
