Jim McGuinness as begun pre-season training with Charlotte Independence – and the old magic is still with the Glenties man.
2012 All-Ireland winning Donegal manager McGuinness, who is currently undertaking his UEFA Pro Licence, has been handed his first management job in soccer at the USL Championship club.
“I feel really good, very enjoyable,” McGuinness said.
“They’re putting a lot of effort in, a really good work rate and a good attitude.
“It’s the first day of many. Culturally it’s a really important thing.”
McGuinness and his family have relocated to North Carolina as McGuinness embarks on his big voyage.
The new USL championship season kicks off on March 15 as Charlotte face Indy Eleven at the Sportsplex at Matthews.
McGuinness has re-signed Jorge Herrera, the franchise leading goal scorer and USL Championship second all-time leading goal scorer.
“We’re very excited, obviously,” said McGuinness.
“He’s been a permanent fixture since the start of the franchise and he’s a player with a great engine. He’s the right type of person, as well.
“It’s really important we continue to build around the guys who have been around the club for a number of years, and add guys with the right mentality. It’s great to have him back.”
Herrera becomes the eighth player added to the 2019 rosters.
In this brief segment, shared by Charlotte Independence’s Twitter account, you can see McGuinness is quite at home.
