JOHN KELLY was in record-breaking form again at the weekend.
The Finn Valley AC man broke the Ulster and Donegal shot putt record.
Competing in the Swedish village of Bottnaryd, Kelly reached out to 17.79 metres.
The St Johnston man is aiming to break 18 metres soon.
Kelly’s throw placed him in fifth spot. The event was won by Mesud Pezer of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who threw 20.69m.
Estonia’s Kristo Galeta was second with a 19.97m mark and in third was Sweden’s Arwid Koskinen’s 18.31m.
At the same meet, Daniel Stahl improved his Swedish record in the discus by 57 centimetres, propelling himself from ninth to equal fourth on the world all-time list.
Stahl improved his national record of 71.29m – which was set exactly two years ago today – to 71.86m at a small meeting in the village of Bottnaryd where the world and European silver medallist was watched by around 500 spectators.
Stahl goes alongside Yuriy Dumchev on the world all-time list with only three Olympic champions Gerd Kanter (73.38m), Virgilijus Alekna (73.88m) and Jurgen Schult (74.08m) ahead of him.
