THERE was senior championship success for one Gaoth Dobhair man yesterday afternoon.
While the men of his home parish were going through the mill for an extra time draw against Naomh Conaill in Ballybofey, Gaoth Dobhair native Ciarán Ó Fearraigh was celebrating glory in the Meath SFC final.
Ó Fearraigh captained Ratoath to a 3-15 to 2-13 victory over Summerhill at Pairc Tailteann in Navan.
Goals from Eamon Wallace, Daithi McGowan and Conor Rooney, all in the first half, sent Davy Byrne’s Ratoath on their way to the Keegan Cup.
“I’m delighted,” Ó Fearraigh told Aisling O’Reilly from Off The Ball.
“They’re a great bunch of lads. It’s a very young team, but they’ve won minor and under-21 the last few years.”
Ó Fearraigh commuted to line out for Gaoth Dobhair until three years when he transferred to Ratoath.
He said: “The travel up and down was getting a bit too much. I went up and down for eight or nine years since I was in college. The journey started getting a bit too much.”
