THERE was no joy for Donegal boxers Ryan Ward-Mulrine and Shane Gillespie at the National Junior Cadet finals on Saturday.
Convoy ABC man Ward-Mulrine had won two fights to reach the 52kgs final.
Against European bronze medalist Luke Hurley from Tramore in the final, Ward-Mulrine was out-gunned and lost out by way of a unanimous decision.
In his semi-final on Friday night, Ward-Mulrine overcame Shane Molloy from Oughterard on a unanimous decision having defeated Riverstown’s Sean Butlerin a quarter-final last week.
Hurley, for his part, defeated Daryl Brennan (Cherry Orchard) in his semi-final and he bagged the title with the win over Ward-Mulrine.
Bundoran boxer Gillespie was sent straight into the 72kgs final on Saturday, but he was just edged out by St Anne’s Westport man Ruairi Brennan, who took the majority decision.
