MARK FARREN, the former Derry City and Finn Harps player who died this week following a long battle with cancer, will be laid to rest tomorrow.
Farren died just over six years after he was first diagnosed with a grade two brain tumor.
Tributes have poured in from all across the football world since the death of the 33-year-old Greencastle native, who is Derry City’s record goalscorer, having netted 113 goals in 209 games.
Liam Coyle, whose record Farren broke with an FAI Cup quarter-final hat-trick in September 2012, yesterday said Farren was ‘the complete striker’.
Derry City have confirmed that they have retired the number 18 shirt worn by Farren during his time with the Candystripes and their friendly tomorrow night against Ballymena United has been called off as a mark of respect.
Farrn will be buried tomorrow after Funeral Mass at St Mary’s Church, Ballybrack and will be laid to rest beside his triplets – Terri, Marlie and Millie – who died in 2014 not long after their premature birth.
