LAST NIGHT AT the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Shane Duffy was named as man of the match in the Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 win over Switzerland.
Duffy was making his first senior appearance in Dublin – only his second cap after lining out two years ago against Costa Rica in Philadelphia – and was watched on by his family, who are based in Derry.
Father Brian, from Ard O’Donnell in Letterkenny, and mother Siobhan were there and at full-time you could see the delight in the faces when Shane presented his jersey to his parents.
“I often see players doing that – giving their jerseys to someone in the crowd – and I when I saw Shane come over I though ‘Jez, this must be our moment’,” Brian Duffy told Donegal Sport Hub this afternoon.
