For the last 42 days, the children, teachers, SNAs and Principal Aine Fabisiak, have been running a ‘k a day’ challenge.
They reached their goal today, with the aid of some well-known locals.
The Mayor of Donegal, Councillor Ciaran Brogan, Councillor James Pat McDaid, endurance athlete Sean McFadden, athlete Danny Mooney, Donegal ladies footballers Therese McCafferty and Karen Guthrie, Sarah Marie McDevitt from Pinehill Studios and Ann McAteer, the Health Promotions Officer with the HSE, were all in attendance – and ran 1k with the children.

The ‘k a day’ challenge has seen the school complete 42 kilometres – the distance of a full marathon.
“It’s given the children a chance to be active in a non-competitive way,” says Nakita Burke, the fifth class teacher behind the initiative.
“The students had lots of fun and teachers have noticed that the children are more focussed in class when they are more active.”
The school, located at Ballyraine in Letterkenny, aims to ‘educate children in an all-inclusive environment, with respect for all, irrespective of gender, religion, physical ability, ethnic or social background’.
