THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND were waved off at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin following their penultimate pre-Euro 2016 international friendly.
Killybegs native Seamus Coleman played 90 minutes at right-back, while Shane Duffy – whose father Brian is from Letterkenny – lined up at centre-back in the 1-1 draw against the Netherlands. Shay Given was an unused substitute and will have to wait on his 134th appearance and the record of being Ireland’s longest-serving player.
[adrotate group=”62″]Shane Long prodded Martin O’Neill’s side into a 30th minute lead as Ireland went in 1-0 up at the break and good value for that lead. Duffy had a couple of chances to double Ireland’s advantage but it was Luuk de Jong who levelled for the visitors late on.
Ireland will play Belarus at Turner’s Cross in Cork on Tuesday and O’Neill will then confirm his 23-man squad for France.
