OLIVE MCCAFFERTY and Karen Feeney played their part as Scotland overcame Derry in the TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship semi-final at Fingallians in Dublin today.
Full-back McCafferty from Termon and former Cloughaneely centre-fielder Karen Feeney, from Gortahork and now playing with Dunedin Connolly’s in Edinburgh, saw their side win 1-13 to 2-5 in an entertaining contest.
The scores were tied 1-3 to 1-3 at half-time, with Megan Devine goaling for Derry in the first half – as she would in the second.
Caolfhoinn Deeney, the right corner-forward for Scotland, is from Rathmullan originally but moved to Wicklow as a 10-year-old and scored an impressive 1-8.
Louth will provide the opposition in the final at Croke Park on Sunday, September 27, following their 6-11 to 2-6 victory over Lancashire, with Kate Flood scoring a massive personal haul of 5-1.
Angie Callaghan from Letterkenny and formerly of St Eunan’s having played for Donegal, was named to play at right half-forward but missed out with a dislocated shoulder.
Christina Newton from Leixlip, Co Kildare, played centre-forward and is the niece of former Donegal player, Des Newton. A selector is Paul Gallagher, who also manages Glasgow Gaels, from Arranmore island.
