THE SOUNDS OF summer were in the air this evening, but there was a spring in the step of the natives of Leckview Park for a different reason.
Cup fever has taken hold down Leckview Lane these days. This Saturday night, Letterkenny Rovers head for Aviva Stadium to face Crumlin United in the FAI Intermediate Cup final.

Rovers have had a magical journey, from an opening round win over Ulster Senior League kingpins Cockhill Celtic to their semi-final replay win over Ringmahon Rangers.
“It’s been a fantastic four weeks since we reached the final,” said the team’s captain and talisman, Darren McElwaine.
“There’s a great buzz and everyone’s been very positive to us. This is a big opportunity for us and we’re really looking forward to this.”
Rovers have also qualified for the second round of the FAI Senior Cup and, on Saturday-week, will take on League of Ireland First Division side Athlone Town.

“I’m fairly confident we can give a good account of ourselves. We don’t want to let this pass because of nerves of because of fear.”
Paul ‘Yank’ Boyle was one of the new recruits to the Cathedral towners this season, arriving in October, by which stage the season was in full swing for Eamon McConigley’s charges.

““It’s just unbelievable what we’ve achieved so far in seven months. It’s great to be a part of it.
“We’re not just going to make up the numbers. We’re going to take them on head-on.”
