BRIAN MCENIFF WILL no doubt be at St Tiernach’s Park in Clones on Sunday.
Some 44 years have now passed since he was player manager and guided Donegal to their first ever Ulster SFC title following their 2-13 to 0-11 win over Tyrone.
[adrotate group=”79″]McEniff took Donegal to the Anglo-Celt Cup five times – adding titles in 1974, 1983, 1990 and 1992 – as well as winning the All-Ireland for the first time in 1992.
Therefore, Jim McGuinness is the only other man to win championship silverware as Donegal manager. McGuinness was an Ulster champion as a manager in 2011, 2012 and 2014 and an All-Ireland winner in 2012.
[adrotate group=”78″]His successor, Rory Gallagher, was unfortunate not to join that elite club last season following provincial successes over Tyrone, Armagh and Derry before losing out in the final to Monaghan by a single point.
Gallagher has worked another opportunity this year for him and his team as Donegal face Tyrone in Sunday’s final in Clones.
RTÉ have put footage of that famous 1972 final win online and you can see it by clicking here
