THE DENVER BRONCOS were victorious last night over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 on a 24-10 scoreline.
Closer to home, the local gridiron team in the north-west, the Donegal-Derry Vipers, are preparing for their second second season in existence.
Ahead of the Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California, Derry City players Barry McNamee from Ramelton, Letterkenny’s Shaun Patton and Jordan Allan – the Glasgow-born former Dundee United striker who celebrated his 21st birthday on Sunday – joined up with the Vipers to try their hand at the oval ball.
Derry open their SSE Airtricity League Premier Division season with a trip to neighbours Finn Harps on Friday, March 4.
In 2015, playing in IAFL 2, the Vipers won one of their six games, on the final day of the campaign when they defeated Galway Warriors 17-6 at St Mary’s College.
