THERE WERE A couple of proud fathers no doubt in the Aviva Stadium tonight as the Republic of Ireland took on Switzerland at the Aviva Stadium.
Ciaran Clark headed Ireland into a second minute lead when he was set-up by a header by Shane Duffy for opening goal as Martin O’Neill’s team lead 1-0 at half-time.
London-born Clark’s father Michael was brought up in Ballyare, Milford, while Brian Duffy – Derry native Shane’s dad – is from Letterkenny.
Seamus Coleman from Killybegs is the Ireland captain tonight, while Aiden McGeady – the Glasgow-born winger whose grandparents were from Gweedore – also started.
