VETERAN attacker Raffaele Cretaro is set to return to Finn Harps for the 2020 season.
Cretaro had signalled his intentions to retire from playing at the end of last season.
However, the 38-year-old Tubbercurry man featured for Harps last night in a pre-season friendly against Galway United and is expected to give it another go at the club in the Premier Division.
Cretaro had previously played over 500 times in 17 years with Sligo Rovers.
At the end of last season, Cretaro, said of his year at Harps: “It was a new experience and a really positive one.
“I I gave it what I had to try and keep Harps up. I’m grateful to Ollie for giving me the chance and I enjoyed the season.”
Horgan has previous when it comes to these situations.
Barry Molloy had announced his retirement in 2016 before the Harps manager convinced him to sign at Finn Park. Molloy was back for a second season at Harps in 2017.
Paddy McCourt’s playing days appeared to be over when he left Glenavon in December 2016.
Just two months later, Horgan was announcing the signature of the former Derry City and Celtic winger.
Despite Harps’ relegation in 2017, McCourt stayed and helped Harps to win promotion in 2018.
Mikey Place, who played with Harps in the last couple of seasons, scored a cracker for Galway in a 2-0 win last night. Conor Barry netted the first goals in the game played at Ballisodare.
Meanwhile, young goalkeeper Jamie Bell has left Harps and signed for Donegal League First Division side Ballybofey United. Bell made his Harps first team debut in the final Premier Division game of 2019 against Derry City.
However, Bell has departed to sign at his native Ballybofey.
