This game was played on a super pitch that both teams tried to play football in a proper way.
The first chance of the day fell to young Jack Malone who played a one two with Sean McBride and when it came back to Malone his strike came back off the post.
Derry should have taken the lead on 33 minutes when Dylan Devine was sent through on goal and was upended by the Swilly goalkeeper but Connor Gormley hit the post with the resulting penalty.
To be fair to Swilly they had a great chance to take the lead on 40 minutes when former Derry City player Tony McNamee beat three men and was just off target with his shot.
The second half started with Derry having loads of possession but never troubling the back line of Swilly and swilly played on the counter attack.
Derry had several chances but the Swilly goal keeper did well to keep them out.
Malone hit the bar late on and when Swilly thought they had done enough to earn a hard fought point, Ethan Harkin scored with a header from a Malin corner to get Derry the three points.
