Derry City Reserves moved into third in the 4 Lanterns Ulster Senior League thanks to a win over Fanad United, while Finn Harps Reserves defeated Swilly Rovers.
Derry City Reserves 5 Fanad United 1
Derry City Reserves climbed above Fanad United and into third place in the 4 Lanterns Ulster Senior League table after a comfortable win on Sunday.
Derry swept into a two-goal lead as Ben Doherty and Shane McNamee netted in the first half-an-hour.
Fanad pulled a goal back before the break through Daire McDaid, but Derry regained a two-goal cushion as Doherty struck his second of the game.
Matthew Doherty stepped up to convert a penalty for the young Candystripes and he also ended the game with a brace after scoring Derry’s fifth.
Swilly Rovers 1 Finn Harps Reserves 3
Jamie Browne scored a second-half hat-trick as Finn Harps Reserves won for only the second time this season.
Browne’s hat-trick brings Joe Boyle’s Harps to within a point of second-from-bottom Swilly.
The first half, on a poor surface at Swilly Park, ended scoreless, but two minutes into the second period Browne headed home from close range to open the scoring.
Browne doubled the advantage with a well-taken second.
Former Harps senior midfielder Tony McNamee – now back with his hometown club – pulled a goal back for Swilly, but Browne secured the matchball and the win with a fine third as Harps took a deserved win.
