Cockhill defeated Fanad United by a convincing scoreline at the Charlie O’Donnell Sports Grounds to close the gap on leaders Letterkenny Rovers at the top of the Four Lanterns USL

The visitors had the first chance on seven minutes when a Blaney corner was delivered into a dangerous area but nobody from the visitors took a chance and the ball was cleared by Doherty for the home side
Cockhill made them pay moments later when Mark Moran picked up a throw in wide on the left to cut inside and dispatch a low drive into the corner.
Fanad levelled matters on 30 minutes when McElwaine picked up a cross from Blaney to swivel in the box and shot high into the roof of the net.
Fanad ‘keeper Eoghan Jordan then pulled off a smart save from Cockhill’s Peter Doherty on the stroke of half-time
Cockhill regained the lead then on 53 minutes when Fanad scored an unfortunate own goal.
The home side added a third then when birthday boy Brendan McLaughlin was pulled back on the area and Gerry Gill dispatched the penalty with ease.
Bart Wesolowski made it 4-1 when he powerfully headed a Jason Breslin cross to the net.
Fanad conceded a fifth late in the game when Malachy McDermott scored for Cockhill.
