Burnfoot’s Conor Carlin will be presented with an Ulster GAA Young Leaders Programme certificate on Sunday.
Carlin will be be among the large crowd in Healy Park, Omagh on Sunday for the Ulster GAA Senior Club Final between Gaoth Dobhair and Scotstown.
Before the game, there will be a presentation of a final set of certificates and a specially commissioned O’Neill’s top in the Silverbirch Hotel at 12 noon. It all came about after successfully participating in the Ulster GAA Young Leaders Programme during the summer.
Despite only turning 18 within the last few weeks Conor Carlin already has lots of experience playing for Schools, Club and County in both football and hurling.
He won a senior hurling championship medal this year with Burt and is very much involved with the current Inis Eoghain MacLarnon Cup squad who have qualified for the quarter finals.
Last week he played through the pain barrier to score 1-2 for Scoil Mhuire in their derby win over Crana College.
To be the recipient of such an award is no more than Conor deserves for his dedication and commitment to the GAA to date and his proud parents Catherine & Brendan, will be among the big Donegal support in Omagh on Sunday and no doubt sister Roisin, brother Kevin and perhaps even his Uncle Fr Neal Carlin will have a smile on their face too.
Conor Carlin was one of only three Donegal participants, who were selected for the Young Leaders Programme targeting outstanding young GAA volunteers from across Ulster’s nine counties, made possible with the support of the “Coca-Cola Thank You Fund”.
The Programme was delivered through a Leadership Academy targeting young people aged 16-24 and took place over 4 days in July in the Tyrone GAA Garvaghey Centre. It included a 25-hour Club Placement at their local club with the placement being overseen by a club mentor who helped the young people put the knowledge learned into practice.
Among the modules covered in the intensive Programme were: Volunteering Benefits & Event Management, “Getting to know the GAA”, Social Media, Communication & Marketing, Nutrition & Lifestyle, One Punch & Heart Start campaigns, Club Governance, Sport Science, ‘GAA for All’, Foundation Course, Child Protection Course, Complete Foundation Practical & Wheelchair Hurling’.
