DUSTIN POIRIER will be across the octagon from Joseph Duffy on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas – but just who is the man facing Burtonport native Duffy?
Poirier is a 26-year-old who hails from Carencro, Louisiana and has a record of 18-4 since turning professional in 2009.
Both Poirier and Duffy have faced Conor McGregor in the past but, unlike Duffy – who defeated ‘The Notorious’ in just 38 seconds – Poirier lost to McGregor at UFC 178 in September 2014.
That bout also took place at the MGM Grand, with McGregor winning in the first round and Poirier beaten by strikes for the first time in his career.
Since losing to McGregor, Poirier has had two impressive wins after moving from featherweight to lightweight, defeating Carlos Diego Ferreira in April and Yancy Medeiros in June.

The American Top Team product Poirier was set to face Duffy in Ireland back in October, only for a bout of concussion forcing the Donegal man to pull out of the bout.

Before their planned contest at the 3Arena, Poirier spoke of his confidence at facing Duffy.
“Fighting is what I do, it’s what excites me and what gets me up in the morning,” he said at the time.
“When I found out we were going out there behind enemy lines fighting another guy who’s got a lot of eyes on him, it was exciting for me.
“I really feel like I can submit him rather than knock him out. I think I’m a better wrestler than him. For being a boxer, it’s not like he’s been knocking guys out, even in his boxing record.”
This week, Poirier posted a picture on his Instagram account showing himself in top shape ahead of Saturday’s fight against Duffy in Las Vegas.
