On what was a great weekend for Cranford AC, the club had three of the finest athletes travel to Tullamore to compete in the National Juvenile Championships.
Oisin Kelly was up first in the Boys U14 800m, this young athlete has now proven he is the best in Ireland in his age group in Cross Country, Indoor and now the 800m track.

He got off to a great start and hit the front of the pack to stay out of any trouble before settling into the race staying in the middle of the pack and going down the back straight with 250m to go moved to the shoulder of the two leaders then coming off the bend Oisin made his move and there was no one to respond to him as he powered down the home straight to comfortably win the race with a new PB of 2.13m to claim Gold and the National title. This is another great achievement for this young lad.
Aoife Giles was up next in the Girls U14 Javelin. Aoife is going from strength to strength in this event. She made the last 8 and into the final and with each of Aoife’s throws getting better and better she finished in 6th place and a new PB with a massive throw of 27.54m.
It was the turn of Teresa Mullen on Sunday in the Girls u13 long jump. This is Teresa’s 2nd year getting to the Nationals in this event and last year she came 4th just missing out on a medal but there was no stopping her this year and her first jump put her into the lead and that is where she stayed to win Gold and the National title. There was some great jumping from this young girl and she got better as the competition progressed with her best jump being 4.62 m.
Oisin also competed in the long jump on Sunday and Teresa in the 80m.
Congratulations to these Athletes on a great achievement.
Congratulations also must go to Miah Fletcher who came first place in Auckland cross country u11 girls 2k race over a muddy track in Curtis Park, Auckland. Great to see the Cranford vest travelling all the way to New Zealand. Good girl Miah.
Thanks as always to coaches Eamon Giles, Ernie McElhinney, Joe Boyce, Rose Gavaghan and Bridie Trearty and to all the parents and family members who travelled to Tullamore.
