TWO GOALS IN the last two minutes gave Fanad United the points against Gweedore Celtic in the Donegal Youth League this afternoon at Traigh-a-Loch.
Fanad United 2-0 Gweedore Celtic
It looked as though the spoils were about to be shared before Bernard McGettigan and Louis Hanlon struck at the death to deny the visitors.
Fanad, who have now won five from six and remain unbeaten this term, were the better side in the second half, although Gweedore can be justified to be disappointed to have lost in the fashion in which they did.
Both defences were on top in a first half of few chances. The best opportunity came on just two minutes when Gweedore Celtic’s Dan Gallagher flashed a shot just wide of Dane Dunworth’s post.
It took until the hour-mark for another opening and it was Michael Devine, following a powerful run, that grazed the Gweedore crossbar. Then five minutes later, Darren McElwaine saw a shot deflected just wide.
The closest Gweedore came was 10 minutes from time. Aidan Doohan, from a corner by Liam Wiggins, was narrowly off target with a fine header.

However, just when it was looking like a draw, Fanad produced the breakthrough. McGettigan volleyed home on 88 minutes following excellent approach play by Devine.
Then, in the last minute, the points were secured for Niall Doherty’s team. Brad Patterson’s superb through ball set Hanlon away and he finished with aplomb.
