A DONEGAL FOOTBALLER scored two goals yesterday – 100 kilometres apart!
Johnny Logue scored for Milford United in their 1-1 draw against Kildrum Tigers in the Brian McCormick Sports Premier Division at Moyle View Park, turning home a cross from Adam Serrinha.
After that strike, he made a dash to Glencolmcille, where he found the net for Milford in their AllSport.Com All-County Football League Division 2 game against Naomh Columba.
“I’d never scored two goals in one day before; actually I’d never even scored two in one game before,” Logue said.
After Milford’s draw with Kildrum, Aidan Cannon was waiting with the transport to take Logue, Serrinha, Gary Merritt and Caolan McGettigan to Glencolmcille.
They raced into Churchill, over Meenaroy, through Fintown, Glenties and Ardara, taking the mountainous route over Glengesh into Glencolmcille.
“It was tight going, we were brave and stiff when we got there at half-time,” Logue said.
“We had Aidan waiting on us after the soccer game. We just got a quick shower and got changed for the Gaelic match in Milford. We landed just before half-time and got a warm-up done.
“Aidan made good time getting us there so quickly up through the middle of the mountains!”
Milford trailed 0-6 to 0-2 at half-time, but they hit back and Logue – who came on for Shaun Black 20 minutes from time – was among the goals again, this time palming home in a crowded goalmouth, but Milford were edged out 2-9 to 2-8 in a frenetic finale.
“None of the goals were world beaters, but I was glad to score them – it’s just a pity we didn’t win either of the games,” Logue said.
A Johnny McGinty goal earned Kildrum a draw while Gavin McGinley netted the winning goal for Naomh Columba.
