Twin Towns ABC’s Ciara Anderson represented Ireland in a Test Match against India last night at the National Stadium.
Anderson came out on the wrong side of the decision against India’s Monika Bagri.
Boxing at 48kgs, Anderson – a grand-daughter of former Olympian Brian Anderson senior – was in to gain valuable experience over three three-minute rounds at Elite level.
“She looked like she belonged there,” said Irish coach Liam Brereton.
India, now in training in Edenderry in an international camp organised by Brereton, was full of praise about their visit to Ireland.
IABA President Pat Ryan echoed all sentiments following a wonderful evening of boxing.
“Great to see thirteen Elite female bouts and seven open sparring sessions for our Youth girls early in the day,” said Brereton, who thanked all involved for putting on a great evening of boxing, especially the boxers, coaches and clubs for taking up the challenge.
India leave Ireland next Wednesday. India are using the Edenderry international training camp in their build up to the Asian Championship in November in Vietnam.
Carndonagh ABC’s Labhaoise Clarke was also involved in the camp. Clarke took on Neeraj Phogat from India in an open spar at 51kgs.
