A very enjoyable evening was had by all in the Lagoon last Saturday night.
Thanks to Joe McHugh TD who came along on the night and presented a number of awards.
The senior ladies received county championship, Ulster runner-up and All Ireland Comórtas Pheil na Gaeltachta medals.
Our senior men received their League Division two winners medals. The Division two cup, as well as the Ladies County Championship, Comórtas Uile Éireann and All Ireland Under 21 Cups were also on display, and Emer Gallagher as captain of the All Ireland winning Under 21 team received an award in recognition of her captaining the team, as well as players Dara Kelly, Nicole McLaughlin and Shannon McGroddy.
Oue senior ladies who played with the county last year, Roisín McCafferty, Therese McCafferty, Geraldine McLaughlin, Nicole McLaughlin, Laura Gallagher, Shannon McGroddy and Emer Gallagher were the recipients of awards to mark their representation of the club at county level.
There were also awards for Michael Boyle and Daire McDaid for their participation at county senior and under 21 level respectively.
There was great applause when Laura Gallagher was named Senior Ladies Player of the Year. The delight was however tinged with sadness as Laura has returned to the newly formed senior team with her home club Glenswilly.
Geraldine McLaughlin spoke on behalf of the senior ladies, and indeed everyone in the club, and wished Laura all the very best in the future with Glenswilly, and thanked her for everything she brought to the ladies team since she joined as an U14 player – a few years ago now! We hope she will not be a stranger and might call down to her neighbours from time to time, it is always a pleasure to see Laura, on and off the field.
The Junior Ladies Player of the Year award went to Sally-Anne McFadden, while in the mens teams, the Senior Player of the Year trophy was awarded to Kevin McDaid, while brother Paul McDaid was named Reserve Player of the Year.
An appreciation award was presented to Eddie Harkin who stepped down as Minor Board Chair after 5 years at the helm, and is now chair of the Northern Board, and we wish Eddie all the best.
Our Club senior referees, James and Benny Trearty were presented with awards in recognition of their years of refereeing service to the club, and Club Person of the Year was awarded to Margo Doherty, Club Secretary and PRO.
We would like to thank the staff in the Lagoon Bar & Restaurant for the delicious food and finally thanks to our own club member Frank McGettigan as ever for his attendance and recording of the night’s events for posterity. Thanks also to Brian McDaid who came out to photo the presentation of awards.
