FINN HARPS HAVE BEEN handed a boost with the news that suspensions for three players have been lifted ahead of the new season.
Harps had been planning to be without Kevin McHugh, Gareth Harkin and Michael Funston for Friday night’s game against Derry City.
However, Ollie Horgan has been given a considerable lift with confirmation that a rule change at a recent EGM of the Football Association of Ireland means that they will now be available for the derby clash.
The rule change means that ‘suspensions imposed for the accumulation of five (5) yellow cards and eight (8) yellow cards only do not carry over to the next season.’
“It’s great to have those three men available to us – they were big parts of our promotion season last year,” Horgan told Donegal Sport Hub.
“We had planned without them, but it gives us more numbers now to pick from. I have plenty of players to pick from and plenty of choices to make for Friday night.
“They’re three experienced players who all add something to us. It’s sort of miraculous that the suspensions are lifted – but it’s great for us.”
Horgan will be without the injured Josh Mailey for around six weeks, while new signing Michael Rafter is not yet match fit.
Midfielder Barry Molloy – a former Derry City captain – has signed for Harps this week, but won’t to be available for selection against his former club on Friday night.
