PATRICK MCBREARTY was taken to hospital in Dublin, after suspected kidney damage while in action for Ireland during last night’s International Rules test against Australia at Croke Park.

McBrearty collided with the post in the 11th minute of the second quarter, with the ball finishing in the net.
The goal failed to stand, with referee Joe McQuillan instead awarding a penalty, which Conor McManus converted to hand Ireland a 40-22 lead.
McBrearty was subsequently substituted and failed to feature over the remainder of the game, having been taken to hospital before the end of the match.
“Paddy is away to hospital and we hope he is ok. He’s just away to get checked. I think it’s his kidney,” Ireland manager Joe Kernan said.
“Two parts of him hit the post. Things happen in matches, but we hope Paddy is ok.
“The game the way it was played tonight, compared to the way it was played years ago – I think it was first class.
“It was competitive, it was fast, it was exciting, it was nerve-wracking and thank God there was no extra-time.”
Ireland won the game 56-52, with captain Bernard Brogan named as Man of the Match, with Aidan O’Shea also among those who contributed strongly, netting two vital goals.
