Nearing the end of the golfing year, Autumn once again brings calm, dry days.
Taking advantage of the milder conditions was Michael P. O’Donnell [15] who, despite a ‘blank’ at the par five 7th, recorded 20pts on back nine with the help of a birdie at par three 16th for an overall 35pts for the win.
[adrotate group=”53″]Saturday 8th confined competition, played under the same ‘late’ summer sunshine, was won by cat 4 member Hector Mc Ilwaine [21] who followed a double bogey at Swilly [3rd] with a birdie at Sliabh Sneacht [4th] and, despite a ‘blank’ at par three 8th, managed 21pts on inward nine for a 40pt total to outscore runner-up and Ulster Cup stalwart Rory Kenny [12] who, with a birdie at Hall Door [1st[, had disappointing back-to-back double bogeys at 6th and 7th to leave him short on 37pts.
Sunday 9th confined competition entrants had the added bonus of being entered into a free draw for a meal for two sponsored by Browns on the Green but taking home the main prize was single figure handicapper Eamonn Mc Glinchey [6] whose very creditable round of one [1] under gross 71 was achieved by recording back-to-back birdies at 3rd and 4th holes and also at the par five 7th [The Isle] for a front nine of 22pts, [35 gross], and continued on inward nine with a birdie at Cornagill [10th] from where, having the only blemish on back nine at the par three 13th where a bogey was conceded, finishing with a level par 21pts.
The much enjoyable club Past Captains’ competitions, both men’s and ladies, took place recently with the following results: Ladies front 9, Grainne Hines; ,back nine, Sandra McMonagle; 3rd Tracy Spence 31pts [b.o.t]; runner-up, Marian O’Sullivan 31 pts; winner, Angela Kilgallen, 35 pts.

A Letterkenny Golf Club team, under the captaincy of P.J. Sweeney and known as ‘FUREY’S FUTTERS’, will take part in a challenge match v. Castle Dargan G.C. on Saturday 15th, tee-off @ 12.30pm with a ‘meet & greet’ arranged for approx. 11.45am.
Wishing every success to the club Seniors team on Sunday in their endeavor to retain the Donegal Seniors Trophy from last year. Having taken 2&1/2 matches from the first leg at the away venue, team captain Kevin Kiely has warned his panel to expect a hard fought game at Barnhill against a determined Portsalon G.C. team.
