Donegal woman Nora Stapleton set up Jenny Murphy’s match-winning try for Ireland win their opening Women’s Six Nations clash this evening against Scotland.
In a rain-sodden Broadwood Stadium, Ireland stole the win from under the Scots’ noses when they conjured up the winner.
Fahan native Stapleton got possession following a late lineout and she fed Murphy who soared over under the posts for a bonus point score.
Stapleton nailed the conversion to seal a 22-15 win for the Girls in Green.
Ireland also had tried from Sene Naoupu, Alison Miller and Lindsay Peat. Scotland had two tries from Jade Konkel and led 15-10 at the changeover, but Ireland came back to bag the win.
