Daniel Meehan and John Relihan hit the goals as St Naul’s overcame Naomh Muire to reach the Under-21 B final.
ST. NAULS 2-09 V 0-07 NAOMH MUIRE
St. Nauls had the better of the opening exchanges and points front Gavin Mulreany’s 35 mts free and from play by Cathal Mc Glynn gave them a good start inside the first five minutes. Indeed it could have been better Ryan Mc Brearty’s low shot had found the net rather than the inside of Declan Mc Geady’s post with the keeper beaten. Noamh Mhuire finally settled into the game and Daniel Sharkey set up Darren Sweeney for their opening score in the 11th minute and three minutes later Jack Boyle had them level from a 25mts free. A minute later they were behind again when Daniel Meehan kicked a fine score from 30mts to make it 0-03 to 0-02 but two minutes later Ultan Boyle’s fine effort had the teams level again at 0-03 apiece. Three minutes later Ultan Boyle scored again from play to put Naomh Mhire the lead for the first time. That lasted about a minute as Jamie Murray replied for Nauls and then Peadar Mogan kicked a beauty to restore the lead for the Mountcharles lads at 0-05 to 0-04 in the 23rd minute. Brendan Mc Cole should have increased that lead when he burst through but blasted wide from 13mts, and on the stroke of half-time Mogan hit another cracker from wide out on the left to leave it 0-06 to 0-04 in St.Nauls favour at the break. The teams exchanged points in the opening two minutes of the second-half, Cathal Mc Glynn for St. Nauls and a fine effort from Jack Boyle Naomh Mhuire and after Jack Boyle had blasted a goal chance wide, John Mc Garvey hit a super score to reduced the deficit to a one-point game at 0-07 to 0-06. Four minutes later we had the game’s first goal and a controversial one it was. Sean Meehan effort for a point dropped short and keeper Mc Geady appeared to have it under control but seemed to be pushed by Daniel Meehan and the ball finished in the net, but much to Naomh Mhuire’s annoyance Referee Seamus Mc Gonigle awarded the goal and it was a four point game at 1-07 to 0-06 in Nauls favour.. We didn’t have another score for nearly ten minutes before Gavin Mulreany came up to convert another free in the 53rd minute. Daniel Sharkey replied for Naomh Mhuire two minutes later but St Nauls dominated the latter stages with another fine score from Peadar Mogan and then Mogan set up John Relihan to palm home a second St.Nauls goal in the final seconds to put his team into the County final against either Milford or Sean Mc Cumhaills who meets next week.
