St Eunan’s kept up their hopes of catching league leaders Kilcar with a good victory over relegation-threatened Bundoran at Gaelic Park.
Bundoran 1-8 St Eunan’s 2-11
By Noel Carr
Despite a spirited display from the home side St Eunans took both points with a workmanlike display in rain sodden Gaelic Park. The visitors dominated the early proceedings and were three points up after five minutes with frees from Rory Carr and Conor Gibbons and a point from play from Conall Dunne.
The home team eventually woke from their slumber with Alan Russell registering their first score.
Gary Clancy soon added to it and then on 15 minutes an excellent run from Michael McEniff saw his effort deflected past the helpless Matthew Gallagher in the St Eunans net.
However the Seasiders lead was to be brief as an attacking move was overturned at one end and seconds later Cillian Morrison was crashing the ball to the net.
Within three minutes Ashley Mulhern was again picking the ball out of his net when a brilliant St Eunans move saw Conor Gibbons increasing the visitors advantage on 20 minutes.
In fairness the home team responded well with points from Tommy Hourihane and an excellant individual effort from Cian McEniff.
But again Eunan’s replied with points from Carr and Morrison before a Clancy free left the halftime score 1-5 to 2-5 in favour of St Eunans.
The first score of the second half came from a very composed effort by veteran Rory Kavanagh.
A Tommy Hourihane free soon left three between the sides again.
Bundoran’s wastefulness from the dead ball throughout the game was highlighted when they failed to find the target from three consecutive 45s midway through the second half.
With conditions deteriorating both teams exchanged a brace of points from Carr and Gibbons and two from the livewire Alan Russell.
Unfortunately for the Gaelic Park men this was to be their last score as St Eunans showed their resolve and finished strongly to hit the final three scores from Morrison,Gibbons and sub Niall O’Donnell.
