The achievements of four Special Olympians, their coaches and parents were recognised by the Glenties Municipal District Committee with a reception in the Dungloe Public Service Centre today.
The four athletes, Ronán Ó Coirbín (Gaoth Dobhair), Peter Doogan (Gortahork), Patrick Gallagher (Annagry) and Paul McFadden (Gaoth Dobhair) competed and won medals at the Special Olympics in Dublin in June 2018.
Cllr. John Sheamais Ó Fearraigh praised the dedication and bravery of all athletes and also commended the commitment of volunteers, coaches and parents whose valiant efforts resulted in the success of the special Olympic competitors.
Councillors Gallagher, Bonner and Slowey congratulated all in attendance for their contribution to the success of the athletes and their valuable sporting representation of Donegal.
Eamonn Brown Area Manager for Corporate Services with Donegal County Council in the Glenties Municipal District supported the comments of the Elected Members at the event.
He added: “It’s only right that Donegal County Council acknowledge the hard work of all involved and congratulate the participants on their success.
“It was obvious that the camaraderie and friendships of those involved contributed to the success and I’m sure this will lead to more success and medals in future competitions.”
The event concluded with the Cathaoirleach of the Glenties Municipal District Committee, Cllr. John Sheamais Ó Fearraigh presenting a cheque and framed certificate to representatives of the Errigal Sports and Social Club in recognition of the outstanding sporting achievements of the special Olympians.
