SOMMER Lecky won the Irish senior women’s high jump title this afternoon.
The Finn Valley woman jumped a best of 1.79m to take the prize at Morton Stadium.
“I wouldn’t say happy, but I’m happy with another Irish senior title,” Lecky said.
“It’s great to have competition. It keeps you going and keeps you interest. It’s hard to motivate yourself to jump higher when you’re by yourself.
“It has been pretty strange, but it has been a blessing in disguise. Hopefully I’ll see that with some higher jumps.”
Lecky was fifth last year in the European Under-20 Championships having been the World U20 silver medalist in 2018.
Then, in Tampere, Finland, Lecky jumped a personal best of 1.90m.
Last month, Lecky leapt to a superb 1.84m to win the women’s high jump at the City of Lisburn Invitational in Belfast.
This afternoon’s crown added to Lecky’s previous Irish outdoor title in 2016.
