Sommer Lecky won gold at the National Senior Indoor Championships in Dublin this afternoon.
The Finn Valley AC woman leapt to gold with a jump of 1.86 metres – an attempt that equalled her Irish Junior and Under-23 indoor records.
Lecky, the 2018 World silver medallist who is coached by Niall Wilkinson, won an event in Ghent last weekend ahead of competition in Abbotstown today.
Lecky’s 1.86m took the gold with Philippa Rogan (Sli Cualann) coming second with a 1.83m attempt. Ciara Kennelly of Killarney Valley was third in 1.74m.
Lecky’s Finn Valley colleague Brendan Boyce won silver in the men’s 5k race walk. Boyce finished in 20 minutes and 16 seconds, behind winner Alex Weight of Leevale, who won in 18:53.87.
Geraldine Stewart of Tir Chonaill AC won bronze in the women’s shot put, reaching out to 11.76 metres, with that event won by Swinford’s Michaela Walsh (14.44m).
