GORTAHORK’S CIARA DOOGAN enjoyed a fine sixth-place finish in the Points Race of the World Junior Track Championships at UCI headquarters in Aigle, Switzerland, today.
The UCD student ended up taking five points having won the fourth in the sprint in 100-lap, 20km race, which was won by Italy’s Letizia Pater-Noster.
The race is an accumulation of points at various sprints throughout and Doogan, who is 18, was in fourth place for much of the race overall. However, she ended up sharing five points with Nicolle Wendy Borges (Brazil) and Minhwa Kim (South Korea) after coming seventh in the final sprint, but sixth in the points overall.
Last November, Doogan was named as Cycling Ireland’s Junior Female Rider of the Year at the annual awards ceremony in Dublin.
She had finished in 58th place at the Women’s Junior Road Race at the UCI World Road Championships in Richmond in Virginia, USA, in September and a month earlier produced a fine ride to finish 25th in the Women’s Junior Road Race at the European Road Championships in Tartu, Estonia.
You can watch Doogan’s race here – fast forward to 46 minutes …
