Six Donegal players are included on the Republic of Ireland home-based Under-18 squad for next week’s John Coughlan Memorial Cup against Wales.
Ireland face the Welsh on Tuesday and Thursday, both times at the RSC in Waterford, and Jim Crawford’s Ireland squad is well stacked with Donegal players.
Redcastle United’s Denim McLaughlin, Buncrana Hearts’ Pat Loughrey and Cockhill Celtic’s Keegan Hegarty are named in the 19-man squad.
Carndonagh’s Cade Cooke is among three Donegal players listed in the forwards.
St Johnston’s Ethan Coll, who recently transferred from Kildrum Tigers to Derry City, is also in the mix as is Carrigans teen Justin McGee, who features for Kildrum in the Donegal League and Letterkenny Rovers in the Donegal Youth League.
“This squad is derived from the recent interprovincials that took place recently. With the help of the provincial managers I’ve selected the squad for the double header,” said Head Coach Crawford.
“This competition is a worthwhile exercise, it exposes the players to international football and they get to experience a professional set up.
“The games are always competitive and there is of course a trophy at stake. We’ve seen players that previously played for this side go onto a higher level, most notably Alan Browne who picked up a senior cap last year, so it is a fantastic opportunity for the players.”
Ireland’s first game takes place in Waterford RSC on Tuesday followed by a second tie on Thursday in Tramore.
