KATIE-GEORGE DUNLEVY has won her second medal at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio.
Along with her tandem partner Eve McCrystal, Dunlevy was celebrating for a second time in four days today after winning a silver medal in the Women’s Tandem Road Race.
Dunlevy, who has a visual impairment, lives in Crawley, England and is the daughter of Mountcharles native John Dunlevy.
Dunlevy and McCrystal won gold on Wednesday in the Time Trial and were on the podium today after a tough Tandem Road Race.
The race was planned for 90km, but was cut to 75 because of a crash in an earlier race.
Dunlevy and McCrystal were on form again in the Pontal area of Rio and turned in a fine display. They led for much of the way before being passed by Poland’s Iwona Powkowscielna and Aleksandra Teclaw, who won gold with just under a minute to spare.
“We’re absolutely exhausted,”Dunlevy said afterwards.
“It was a hard race, probably one of the hardest races I’ve done but we’re ecstatic. We came into with the pressure off us but we both were nervous, we wanted to do well and show what we can do. We love road racing.”
