LETTERKENNY Institute of Technology get their new Higher Education GAA League term started this evening – and it will be a historic term for the local institute.
LyIT, under the management of the Donegal captain Michael Murphy, will face Ulster University, Jordanstown at The Scarvey this evening (7pm).
The Trench Cup winners in February, LyIT are set to enter the Sigerson Cup for the first time, but will dip their toes in Division 1 League football first to gauge the levels.
After facing Jordanstown this evening, LyIT have another home game next Wednesday against Queen’s before they travel away to St Mary’s College.
“We’re looking forward to getting up and running,” Murphy said on last week’s ‘The Championship’ podcast.
“Hopefully we’ll get in and play Sigerson for the first time in the College’s history.”
Last year, LyIT won Division 2, beating Dundalk in the final and they also overcame DkIT in the Trench Cup final.
Murphy said: “It’s been a juggling act so far in terms of getting the new fellas integrated.
“We have a lot of fellas in the latter stages of the club championships in Donegal too. It’s not ideal going into the game. We’ll be massive underdogs anyway against Jordanstown.”
