Martin McHugh has stepped down as the Kilcar senior team manager, just two weeks before the new All-County League season gets underway.
McHugh is understood to have informed the club of his decision following their Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta defeat by Gaoth Dobhair in Towney yesterday, when Odhrán Mac Niallais posted 3-5 as Gaoth Dobhair won by 4-12 to 2-9.
McHugh, who was also the Ulster University manager, took the reigns in Kilcar for 2016 when he guided the club to a first Donegal SFC final since 1993.
Kilcar were favourites to win Dr Maguire, but they were beaten by Glenswilly in the final.
Kilcar did win Division One of the all-County Football League and McHugh subsequently agreed to another year in the hotseat.
However, just two weeks out from his side are set to take on Glenswilly in the opening League game of 2017, McHugh has vacated the position and Kilcar, now regarded again as one of Donegal’s heavyweights, are on the look-out for a new boss.
