SHAUN KELLY has parted company with Derry City after a year at the Brandywell.
Derry announced the departure of the 26-year-old right-back, who hails from Killybegs, in the lead-up to Friday’s 0-0 draw against Limerick FC.
“Derry City’s right back Shaun Kelly has been released from his contract and has left the club this evening,” a statement on the club’s official website confirmed.
“Shaun made 24 appearances for the club since signing from Limerick last season.
“We would like to thank Shaun for his quality and professionalism during his time at the club and would like to take this opportunity to wish him all the best as he moves on with his future.”
Kelly joined Derry last July from Limerick where he had been since 2011. In 2012, he won the First Division title with the Shannonsiders and had been club captain for a time in 2014.
Kelly had played for Hearts as a youngster, but returned to Ireland in late 2008 and signed for Dundalk for the 2009 season.
At the time Sean Connor – who resides in Killybegs – was manager at Dundalk and in February 2011 Kelly signed for Connor again, this time at Galway United.
