Shane McGinty featured for Ballymena United on Thursday night as David Jeffrey’s side lost 4-0 to Malmo in their Europa League first-round qualifier at the Ballymena Showgrounds.
After a 7-0 defeat in Sweden a week ago, Malmo’s Behrang Safari’s stunning first-half strike put the Swedish side ahead on the night.
The Sky Blues started brightly but were soon on the back foot when Molins and Berget combined to carve open the home side’s defence.
Ballymena came close to getting a goal when McGinty’s curling free-kick caused Malmo goalkeeper DuÅ¡an Melichárek plenty to ponder.
And the former Finn Harps and Institute player was unable to provide Ballymena with a scant consolation when he missed the target on 74 minutes from close range.
Three more goals from Uwe Rösler’s outfit gave them an 11-0 victory on the night – a night to forget for McGinty and Ballymena United.
